What to do on Niuatoputapu:
The remote Niuas in the far north of Tonga are one of the few places where traditional life goes on. Too far for tourism and too remote for commerce, these islands exist much the same way as they have always done so. In fact, the Niuas are so far north that they are much closer to Samoa than Vava'u or Tongatapu.

There's a weekly flight to Niuatoputapu, which takes two and a half hours from Fua’amotu Domestic Airport. Located 280km north of Vava'u, the climate is noticeably warmer.

Beautiful beaches and views of the offshore Tafahi Island surround the main island of Niuatoputapu with its small coastal fishing villages and elaborate churches.

Life here is very traditional - men fish and plant, women weave mats and cook the food and the children look after themselves, wandering around from house to house and playing in the lagoons.

If you plan on staying, the only accommodation is offered by Kalolaine's guesthouse in the village of Hihifo.
